Fascinating facts about Melvin De Groote inventor of petroleum chemical demulsifiers in 1948. Melvin De Groote

AT A GLANCE:
Melvin De Groote (1896–1963) was one of America's great unlauded inventors. At the time of his death he held 925 patents. Time magazine's millennium issue recognized him as second only to Thomas Edison in this regard. Most of DeGroote's inventions were chemical demulsifiers used to treat crude oil. Chemical demulsifiers separate water from crude oil coming out of wells, a process that is necessary before raw petroleum can be refined into gasoline and other products.
