Congratulations to Jennifer Tuttle, the winner
of Jake's Steinfeld's Live Your Dream contest! Her exemplary business idea
is Multiplication Madness, a game that teaches students math skills with the
help of chanting, singing and recognizing visual number patterns. She was
selected from more than 11,000 aspiring entrepreneurs who entered The "Live
Your Dream contest.
This New Baltimore, Michigan resident, mother of two and school teacher
created a mathematical equivalent of the grammar sensation "Hooked on
Phonics" and won over $250,000 fin cash, products and training for her
effort.
Jennifer Tuttle, a 30-year-old mother of two, and elementary school teacher
submitted a short essay about her idea and herself that earned her a spot as
one of 10 semifinalists in January. She was flown to New York in February,
2006 and selected as the winner. Tuttle lives in New Baltimore, Michigan and
taught school at L'Anse Creuse Public Schools' Atwood Elementary in Macomb
Township, Michigan.
"I'm extremely excited," said Tuttle, who has been on a leave of absence
from her teaching job. "I'm hoping this will be a good avenue to launch my
company. I had the ambition to do this, but I needed funding, and winning
this has really lit a fire under me to get the job done."
Tuttle's business idea, Multiplication Madness, is a educational game that
uses chanting, singing and visual number patterns to teach math .Tuttle used
for years a program that teaches kids as young as 8 to multiply by moving,
singing, chanting and evaluating visual patterns. She will market to parents
and classroom teachers the program as a kit containing CDs, DVDs and a work
or guidebook. Kids can learn in as few as five minutes a day, she said.
The Grand Prize includes $200,000 cash as seed money to fund the winner’s
business plan; a Marquis Jet Card, worth $50,000, good for 10 hours of
flight time on a Citation V Ultra; and a trip to participate in the American
Management Association’s prestigious Course for Presidents and CEOs.
The Live Your Dream contest was connected to Jake Steinfeld's first
business-oriented book, "I've Seen a Lot of Famous People Naked and They've
Got Nothing on You," which his Web site calls an entrepreneurial "pure-Jake
motivational kick in the 'buttissimo.'" |
