EarPops
Many people wear them while skiing. They actually fit completely over your ear, forming a
pocket. They then "pop" shut (hence, the name). It takes some trying to get them
to fall off. EarPops, the original
bandless ear muff, were invented in 1988 by Herman E. Brinkley. Mr.
Brinkley does not
like wearing hats or conventional ear muffs. He was working in an oil
field in the midwestern U.S. on a bitterly cold day, and he nearly
developed frostbite on his ears. Later that day, he began tinkering on a
design for an ear muff which would just hang on ones ears.
